Meet Bronte

The BTSBXN Journey

At BTS Boxing we believe training is about more than fitness. It’s about confidence, resilience, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

This month we caught up with Bronte Howell, a paediatric emergency nurse whose journey inside the gym has been nothing short of incredible.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a 29 year old Shire girl and an emergency paediatric nurse at the kids hospital.

On my days off I love cooking (I’m definitely more of a savoury chef), surfing, hunting down the best strawberry matcha around town, catching up for coffee with friends and family, and of course training at BTSBXN.

I’m an only child and really lucky to have two supportive parents who just want to see me happy. I’m also a single fur mum to three dogs who are my world.

Oh and I’m a massive Belieber. Love ya Justin.

What made you walk through the doors at BT’s Boxing for the first time?

I needed a new gym and had heard really good things about BTSBXN. An old coach of mine recommended I give it a go.

I also missed boxing so much and had a gut feeling this place might help bring the “old Bronte” back.

What were you nervous about before starting?

A lot of things.

I hadn’t trained consistently for a year, my boxing skills were a bit dusty, I was overweight, and I didn’t know anyone.

But I’m really glad I made that first phone call to Brett.

What surprised you the most about training here?

The people.

I’ve had a lot of coaches and teammates before, but BTSBXN felt different. It was unique. Everyone made me feel at home and genuinely cared.

I also love the timetable. With my shift work I need flexibility and the gym delivers that.

What’s been your biggest breakthrough since joining?

My weight loss journey.

I’ve lost 33kg since joining BTSBXN.

I’ve also had two Contender fights and two exhibition fights, and I’m continuing to smash my S&C goals with Tyson.

Most importantly… Tim Tszyu knows who I am now.

What keeps you coming back each week?

My fitness and weight loss progress through boxing and S&C.

But also the people. I love seeing the coaches and my friends.

And I love giving banter to Brett and Dave.

How has training impacted other areas of your life?

My happy hormones have skyrocketed because of exercise.

I’ve also learned the importance of having a good routine around training and meals. That’s been challenging with shift work, but it’s made a huge difference.

I now have more energy and recover better from night shifts and training.

Each of the BTSBXN coaches has had an impact on me in some way, and I’m genuinely grateful for that.

What would you say to someone thinking about starting but feeling nervous?

Nerves are normal. We’re all going to feel that.

But it’s your life, and you deserve the best version of yourself.

This is where it starts.

BTSBXN has got you.

Rip the bandaid off and I’ll see you at the gym.
